Reducing Infertility With Nutrition

Currently, over 6.1 million Americans are affected by infertility and a majority of the blame goes to women. Each gender equally shares a part in the responsibility while the other causes are unknown. One can only imagine the stress, heart brokenness, and depression that follows infertility.

Being diagnosed with infertility is usually a result of being unsuccessful at conceiving for least one year. This can be due to a variety of factors such as decreased quality and quantity of sperm, ovulation disorders, polycystic ovary syndrome, eating disorders, excessive exercise, blocked fallopian tubes, inability to implant the embryo in the uterus, and embryo viability.

A diet rich in colorful fruits, vegetables, lean meats, whole grains, beans/plant-based proteins, low-fat dairy products, seeds, nuts, and fatty acids will better aid the body’s reproductive system. Studies have shown that men who consume a high-fiber diet containing carbohydrates, folate, and antioxidants had higher quality sperm than men who had a high protein diet.
